Overview

Assessments can start automatically once a learner completes their course and passes the test, or you can start one manually for a learner. This article covers both.

Starting an assessment automatically

By default, assessments start automatically after a learner completes the course and passes the test. You can turn this on or off per course:

  1. Click the Settings tab in the side menu, or the ⚙ Settings icon in the top-right corner.

  2. In the Courses card, click Course settings.

  3. Click the title of the course whose assessment you want to update.

  4. In the Related assessment card, choose whether the assessment starts automatically:

    • To enable automatic start, select the check box.

    • To disable automatic start, clear the check box.

  5. Click Save changes.

Starting an assessment manually

Whether you can start an assessment manually depends on the learner's current status:

  • Not started — the assessment can be started.

  • Completed — a new assessment can be started (the results of the completed one can't be changed).

  • In progress — use the reset option instead. See How do I delete or reset an assessment?

To start an assessment for one or more learners:

  1. Click the Course library tab in the menu.

  2. Click the Assessments tab on the menu bar at the top of the page.

  3. Apply filters to find the learners — see How do I filter assessments?

  4. Select the learners by ticking the checkboxes on the left of their details.

  5. The Actions bar shows the number of learners selected. Click the arrow on the Actions box to show the menu.

  6. Select Start assessments.

This creates the learner's assessment and changes the status to In progress.

Note: You can also start an assessment for a single learner from the menu on the right of their details — click the arrow to show the menu, then select Start assessment.

FAQ

Do I need to start assessments manually?

Usually not — assessments start automatically once a learner passes the course test, unless you've disabled automatic start for that course.

Can I restart an assessment that's already in progress?

Not with Start — use the reset option instead. See How do I delete or reset an assessment?
