How do I create a course in Course Creator?

Written by Daria Nasedkina

Overview

Course Creator lets you turn a document into a full training course — create it, add a test, preview, and publish to your LMS. This article walks through the whole process. For what you can upload, see What content can I upload to Course Creator?

Step-by-step instructions

1. Access Course Creator

  1. Go to the Course Library.

  2. Open the Custom courses tab.

  3. Click Create a Course.

2. Create a course

  1. Click Create New Course.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions: enter a title, upload a file with your course content, and click Create my course.

  3. You'll get an email confirmation once the course is created.

By default, a Text-based course is created. There are two course layouts available:

  • Text-based course: generated and enhanced using AI. You can edit each module in detail — both visually (fonts, sizes) and in content, right down to rewriting paragraphs. To edit a block, find it and click the Edit button in its top-right corner.

  • PowerPoint course: uses your existing .pptx or .ppt file and keeps everything exactly as it is — text, visuals, layout, and slide order. It's only available for PowerPoint files and can't be edited inside Course Creator. To make changes, update the original PowerPoint and re-upload it as a new custom course.

3. Create a test

  • A test is included by default — Course Creator uses your content to generate up to 20 multiple-choice questions.

  • You can edit or delete any question or answer at any time: click Edit and make your changes.

  • The test is optional. To turn it off, select Exclude Learner Test in the right-hand panel. You can include or exclude it whenever you like.

4. Preview your course

Once all your slides are added, click Preview in the top right to see the course exactly as a learner would. Check formatting, content flow, and any errors, and make edits before publishing.

5. Publish the course

  • When you're happy, click Publish.

  • Confirm that the course is ready to go live.

  • Once published, the course is added to your library and available for enrolment.

6. Manage the course

After publishing, from the Custom Courses tab you can edit the course at any time, duplicate it to build a similar version for another team, and archive or delete it if it's no longer in use.

7. Track and report

Course completion and learner progress are tracked like any other iHasco or custom course, learners receive a certificate on completion, and you can use your standard reporting tools to monitor progress.

FAQ

What's the difference between a Text-based and a PowerPoint course?

A Text-based course is AI-generated and fully editable inside Course Creator. A PowerPoint course keeps your .pptx exactly as it is but can't be edited in Course Creator — to change it, update the original file and re-upload.

Can I edit the test questions?

Yes. Course Creator generates up to 20 multiple-choice questions, and you can edit or delete any of them, or exclude the test entirely with Exclude Learner Test.

Do I need to keep the window open while the course is created?

No. You'll get an email confirmation once it's ready. For more detail, see How do I create and edit courses in Course Creator?
