Overview
An assessment asks you to apply what you've learnt in a course to evaluate your own environment.
After completing the training course and test, you're prompted to complete the course assessment. You can open it straight away or return to it later, but the assessment is a mandatory part of the course.
Currently only two courses include assessments: Display Screen Equipment (DSE) and Health and Safety for Homeworkers.
For example, the DSE assessment asks a series of questions to check whether your workstation is set up correctly, based on the course guidance.
Step 1: Start your assessment
Open a course assessment from your Atlas dashboard:
Click the Assessments tab on the menu bar at the top of the page to show your assessments.
Choose your assessment from the list and click Start new assessment.
Once you open it, the status changes to In progress. If your training administrator created the assessment for you rather than it starting automatically after the course, it will already show as In progress.
Step 2: Answer the questions
Answering the questions
You're asked questions related to your training. Your responses are recorded, and the system offers advice on how to address any issues based on your answers.
For each question, select Yes, No, or N/A.
Note: You can save your responses at any time and resume the assessment later.
How the assessment is organised
Assessments are grouped into topics. The Outline lists the topics, links to each one, and shows their status. Topics with all required responses and comments are ticked; topics with unresolved issues and no comments show an alert symbol and a counter.
Dealing with issues
If your answer highlights an issue, the topic shows an alert symbol and an advice bar with information to help you resolve it:
If the advice resolves the issue: optionally click Add a comment and type your comments, then click Send and accept as resolved.
If the advice doesn't resolve the issue: click Add a comment, type your comment explaining why it's unresolved, then click Send. Your administrator will take care of it from there.
Note: There are no right or wrong answers. You don't have to resolve issues yourself if the suggested recommendations don't work for you — just leave a comment explaining why the issue remains. Offering solutions to those issues is your administrator's responsibility, not yours.
Finishing your part
You've done everything you need to once every question has either a response with no issues, or a comment explaining an unresolved issue. Then:
Check there are no alert symbols left in the Outline without a comment.
Scroll to the top of the page and click Exit, then Exit assessment to save your responses.
That's your part complete. If you left any issues for your Training Administrator, the assessment stays In progress while they review and resolve them. This is expected — you don't need to do anything else, and you are not expected to resolve all issues so that the status changes to Completed. Your administrator handles the rest.
What "Completed" means
Once your administrator has resolved any outstanding issues, the assessment moves to Completed on its own, the assessment is archived, and can't be changed. This happens in the background — there's nothing you need to do to get it there. See How do I view my completed Assessments?
FAQ
When am I actually finished with the assessment?
When am I actually finished with the assessment?
As soon as you've answered every question — resolving what you can and commenting on anything you can't. Once you exit, your part is done, even if the status still shows In progress.
Do I have to do the assessment, or can I skip it?
Do I have to do the assessment, or can I skip it?
The assessment is a mandatory part of the course, so you do need to answer all the questions. You can save and return to it later if you need to.
I can't resolve one of the flagged issues — what do I do?
I can't resolve one of the flagged issues — what do I do?
That's fine, and it's expected. Leave a comment explaining why it's unresolved, then submit. Resolving it is your administrator's responsibility, not yours.
I answered all the questions but it still says In progress — is something wrong?
