How do I start or stop notifying learners about new required reading?

Overview

When you add a new required reading document, you can automatically let learners know about it. This is switched on with the New required reading option in your daily automated emails.

This is a one-off notification about a new document. Each night the system checks for newly-added required reading and, if it finds any, emails the affected learners.

It doesn't keep reminding them about documents they still haven't read — for that, use the weekly unread documents reminder. See How do I remind learners about unread required reading?

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. In the General section, click Messaging.

  3. In the Automated emails section, scroll down to New required reading.

  4. Tick Include new required reading documents in daily summary email. (To stop the notifications, clear this box instead.)

  5. Click Save changes.

FAQ

Does this remind learners repeatedly until they read the document?

No. This notifies learners once, when a document is newly set as required reading. To keep reminding learners about documents they haven't read yet, use the weekly unread reminder. See How do I remind learners about unread required reading?

When will notifications be sent?

Daily summary emails are generated overnight, so a change made today will be included in the email sent out next morning.
