Overview
An assessment asks learners to apply what they've learnt in a course to evaluate their own environment. There are no right or wrong answers, but some responses may be flagged for an administrator to review if they aren't compliant with the course content.
Currently, two courses include assessments: Display Screen Equipment (DSE) and Health and Safety for Homeworkers. For example, the DSE assessment asks learners a series of questions to check whether their workstation is set up correctly, based on the course guidance.
How it works
1. The learner completes the course and passes the test. An assessment only becomes available once the learner has finished their training session and passed the course test.
2. The learner completes their assessment. The learner is prompted to complete the assessment straight after passing, or can open it later from the Assessments tab on their dashboard. Some answers may be flagged for an administrator to review.
3. The administrator manages assessments and resolves issues. Administrators access assessments from the Assessments tab, where they're grouped by training course. See How do I resolve assessment issues?
Assessment statuses
Not Started — the learner is enrolled on the course but hasn't started the assessment.
In progress — the learner is answering assessment questions, assessing their work area, and acting on advice to resolve any issues.
Pending review — issues the learner can't resolve themselves are flagged for the administrator to review.
Completed — there are no outstanding issues and the assessment is archived. It can be viewed but not changed.
Learners and administrators can change assessment responses until all issues are resolved and the assessment is complete.
Note: An assessment can move back and forth between In progress and Pending review if the administrator needs to communicate with the learner to suggest solutions or ask questions.
Reporting and messaging
Administrators can download an Assessment Issues report — see How do I download an assessment issues report? Daily and weekly automated emails can also include new assessment activity and reminders of incomplete assessments — see How do I start or stop automated reminder emails? and How do I set recipients for assessment result notifications?
